Apple Street Learning Center

What We Offer

Open Monday through Thursday, our free 32-week after-school program welcomes students ages 5–18 and offers:

Homework & Tutoring

Students receive personalized homework help and academic support from caring staff, Tulane University work-study students, and community volunteers.

Reading & Literacy

At the Apple Street Learning Center, reading at grade level is a priority. Our Reading Lab uses the Lexia Core 5 Reading Program to help children strengthen their reading skills through personalized, interactive lessons.

In partnership with StreetSide Library, we also provide access to free books and literacy activities that make reading fun and engaging—helping every child fall in love with books.

Math Enrichment

Students build confidence and improve their math skills through the IXL Math Program, which provides interactive practice tailored to each child’s level.

Meals & Snacks

Every student receives healthy snacks and meals through our Food 4 Families program, ensuring no child goes hungry while they learn and grow.

Why It Matters

In New Orleans, more than half of public-school students read below grade level, and in neighborhoods like Hollygrove, many children struggle to access the resources they need to succeed. Limited access to books, tutoring, and stable learning environments creates lasting barriers to academic and personal growth.

At Apple Street Learning Center, we’re changing that story. By providing consistent tutoring, individualized reading support, and caring relationships, we help children overcome learning gaps, build confidence, and discover a lifelong love for reading and learning.

“When a child learns to read, the door to their future opens.”
